Rwanda is "the Land of a Thousand Hills". Unfortunately, the roads that traverse these hills often make delivery of critical medical supplies difficult and time consuming. In late 2016 Zipline, a California based drone operator, began transporting emergency blood supplies to hard to reach areas by drone. As the network builds, other emergency medical supplies like rabies vaccines will be included. The operation is co-funded by the Rwandan government and a public private partnership between the UPS Foundation and Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance. During his presentation Mr. Etter highlight the innovative and operational aspects of the initiative as well as provide background on a unique public private partnership funding strategy.

This seminar will examine recent efforts at planning for potential climate change impacts on the nation’s transportation system.  The analysis frameworks for doing such planning will be discussed, as well as some of the political aspects of working in a “denial” environment.  Examples will be presented of adaptation planning around the United States, including a study being conducted for the Massachusetts DOT.  Research and studies on how climate change could affect transportation planning, engineering design and land use will be explored in the talk.  The presentation will end with some thoughts on the future of climate change and transportation adaptation planning in the Trump Era.

Cyber attacks on supply chains are a constant threat to organizations. News media are regularly reporting cyber attacks to supply chains that result in data theft or denial of service. Examples abound, such as the theft of credit card data for 70 million customers from Target in 2013, and a sophisticated distributed attack that blocked the websites of major companies in the east-US such as Amazon, Starbucks and PayPal, during most the 21st of October 2016. Although relevant, this coverage often overshadows cyber-attacks that affect supply chain operations, which continue to occur without media attention.

The Luxembourg Center for Logistics and Supply Chain Management is organising its first annual eXplore conference on 1 March 2017 titled, "The Future of Supply Chain Management." Amongst others, topics will address the impact of digitization and visual analytics, and the influence of block chain and behavioral aspects on operations and supply chain management. We are particularly pleased to have Professor Yossi Sheffi, Director of the MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics, giving a keynote speech on supply chain risk and resilience.
